FDR and his social programs are given incredible credit for helping the economy out of the great depression, but what if his social programs had nothing to do with the ending of the depression. What if in fact the economy was gaining traction on its own, and his election merely coincided with the beginning of the resolving and healing of the depression independent of Washington. In this situation FDR and socialist ideas would merely be fortuitous benefactors of unbelievable timing. In this situation capitalism would be the victim.

Food for thought.
